I’m not exactly sure what I had in mind when I chose the word “because” to be prompt number 25 in the series, 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes . . . but here we are, so I’m going to use the next five minutes to tell you why I think you, as a Christian writer, should write.Â

25 REASONS TO WRITE
Write because there’s a fire that burns in your soul.
Write because the world needs your story.
Write because you can’t not write.
Write because the words build up within you and need an escape.
Write because you can use words to encourage and build up.
Write because He who called you is faithful, and He will do it.
Write because He who calls also equips.
Write because it brings Him glory.
Write because it’s an act of obedience to your Maker.
Write because you have a story to tell.
Write because He tells us to make His name known among all nations and generations.
Write because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
Write because someone out there might be changed by what you have to share.
Write because your bones ache when your pen stays silent.
Write because the act of creating reflects the image of God in you.
Write because your words will live on long after you do.
Write because future generations need to know.
Write because you wake up in the night and can’t sleep until you’ve captured that sentence and it’s tucked away, safe and sound.
Write because it’s free therapy.
Write because it’s a release.
Write because it’s sanctifying.
Write because it’s cathartic.
Write because it stretches and grows and shapes and refines you.
Write because your voice matters.
Write because you can.

Great inspiration in seeing the written words that propel me to write and create a scene or sentence that stirs my spirit. I like these reasons and their application of my of faith.
“because” I must write whether it be for myself God or others. I don’t ever remember a time that I’ve been discouraged from writing. Oh yes, one time when I was in girl scouts and I picked the writers badge for my first badge. My leader said that is the hardest badge to earn, it is last on the list, let me help you find another. Yet there was none that I was interested in, and I decided that hard wasn’t going to stop me. It was the only one I wanted, so why should I choose any other.
My problem was not in writing but in sharing. I tried to prove my grandma wrong as she said I needed to find a writing career like journalism or something. As we debated, she asked me to write for a scholarship for a children’s writing school in Massachusetts, I did to prove her wrong and they accepted me. I thought it was a hoaxed and did not want to move away from my family. Writing was for me.
My pastor during a spiritual gifts course to see where we could best serve in the church during my individual meeting with me, said he was not going to take me away from my true gift or God’s calling on my life. As he began to explain to me I need to write a book and put my energies there. My disgruntled cry was have you been talking to my grandmother (as I knew of her unwavering determination). My pastor replied, ” no I am serious your writing and story would help so many people, and would have a greater impact than anything I could have you do in the church. He would not waver from his decision, and how rejected I felt. It was my Uncle that broke my stubbornness, a seasoned writer, translator, interpreter of many books, a graduate from the University of Chicago who went on to become a professor in writing, teaching, acting and drama. In which I learned after his death was the Father of KBS the main broadcasting in Korea for movies, an international translator for books and movies. A starving artist, a humble man, with great respect and honor from all his students, as I was informed that there most of been 5000 people that came to his funeral from all over the world gathered together on a mountain in Georgia. A Korean Style service. His own daughter did not even know all he had done, and was shocked at the people that seemingly kept coming was to her dismay. Well my point is that one day he was sitting at my kitchen table. He looked at me straight in the eye, and seriously without any hesitation, sternly said to me it is ashame that you are wasting your God given gift to write.
I thought, what does he mean I am writing, and why does this keep coming up. Everywhere I seem to share I’m encouraged more and more. It was beyond my understanding. Your so inspiring, you give hope, your so eloquent. So even though I didn’t understand how, I still continued to write, but a book that is beyond me. I don’t know where to begin. My uncle’s comment rattled my soul and troubled my spirit. While searching my own heart and God’s will I’ve tried to step out, but nothing was fitting, all doors were closing.
I still kept writing, “because,”
Writing was all I knew how to do. I prayed, and I sensed God saying it’s like Noah building an ark,you keep writing and gathering the wood to build that ark, and one day I will send one that will help you put the wood together to form that ark. I wrote and wrote and wrote, “because” that was all I could do. Eventually I thought it was to be passed on in no way would I see this come to pass in my life, much like the promise to Abraham. So I brought my daughter to my storehouse of writing keepsakes and journals, and told her in case I die before any if this is used promise me you will keep it until the publisher comes, or perhaps you are her, since that gift has been passed to her as well.
So I Write “because” that is all you have to do. I write “because” of all the he 25 reasons listed above. I write ” “because” I believe that one day the builder will come.
In reading the 25 reasons all I can say is it was like stirring up the gifts inside, setting a fire to the flame, which set of a passionate desire to try again.
Am I scared yes
Am I nervous yes
Am I astounded yes
Am I amazed beyond my own faith yes
But ” because” God knows the way that I do not to get me to the plans he has for me. I keep plugging along, and “write” “because” that and teaching is what he gave me as gifts and my way to give back. In that he is my all in all. In that I trust and obey. In that I can surrender all, for that is my living sacrifice and all he gave me to give as an offering pleasing and acceptable unto him. In that my soul knows very well.
Yea I have the gift of gab, I have no idea how I ended up here.
But love you all and deeply humbled to be a part if this fellowship of believers.
