GO.

By the time we arrived in Cape Town in June for our nine-week visit, the entire Western Province of South Africa was several months into a severe drought. Dam levels were at dangerously low levels. News reports warned of an impending “Day Zero” when the dams would be empty and people would have no water running from their faucets at home.

As a result, the government imposed stringent water restrictions. Residents were allowed fifty litres of water per day.

This sounds like a lot until you realize that most toilets use at least seven litres per flush, and you still have to take a shower, cook, wash dishes, and do laundry.

Living at my mother-in-law’s house in Cape Town for over two months, my family and I soon developed new habits. “If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down.”

One day a few weeks into our stay, it rained. Hard.

And I nearly cried I was so grateful. I even took a photo of the water gushing off the neighbor’s roof.

Such a tangible outpouring of the Lord’s grace.

He really does answer prayer. He really does care for us.

It reminded me of the dry seasons in our lives when it seems He’s far away, and we keep praying and praying for the same thing.

Then suddenly, His abundant grace gushes onto the roof and we’re so giddy with excitement and gratitude that we run outside with mouths wide open to drink in the blessings fresh out of His hand.

STOP.
