Our final FMF writing prompt of 2021 is: ANNOUNCE
Another year is coming to an end, and I can’t help but think that overall, it did not meet my expectations for this world. After the worldwide effects of 2020, I was so hopeful that this year could only be better . . . but in many ways, it feels like we are in the same place.
Don’t get me wrong: There have been many joys and delights personally, and I’m so grateful for the Lord’s continued grace, protection, and provision.
But globally, the headlines feel the same. Some worse.
And if I think about it for too long, it can feel very heavy.
Yet, in these dark times when the news keeps announcing one tragedy and crisis after the next, I’m reminded of the critical role we have as believers.
We are the ones who know hope. And we are the ones who can announce the coming of Hope to the world — the coming of Hope in the person of Jesus Christ, the only true hope for any of us.
He is answer, the way, the truth, and the life. It’s in Him that we can find eternal safety and security — not just from the fears and dangers in the world, but from the sin in our own hearts.
So no matter what the coming year holds, we can take comfort in this: He is still on the throne, and His perfect purposes will still prevail.

2020 was the pits,
sapped our strength and will.
We’d hopes for ’21 but it’s
like we’re standing still,
or even moving ever-nearer
to a lemming-cliff,
unable to think any clearer,
enough to say ‘What if?”.
What if we refused to hate,
what if we chose love?
What if we could change our fate,
what if we looked above
to see the tears in Jesus’ eyes
for all of us, not just our tribe?
Great insight Kate! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thank you for your faithfulness to the Five minute Friday community!
Thank you, Beth!
Thanks for all you do, Kate. Enjoy your downtime. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Amen!
Thank you for this uplifting post, Kate. I am encouraged in the hope of our Lord and how He indeed lightens our burdens. It is only through Him that we can long-suffer through this fallen world. Have a wonderful Christmas and a joyful New Year!
SO good to see your name here, Erendira! I hope you had a restful, refreshing holiday season. Every blessing for the year ahead! xx
Amen! I feel much the same, wondering if the world has just been spinning its wheels for all of 2021. But yes, we have hope and we must be about the business of holding that hope out to the rest of the world. Have a blessed Christmas!
