This week’s writing prompt is: OPPORTUNITY
Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.
We get countless opportunities every single day.
Opportunities to be kind. Opportunities to love. Opportunities to serve. Opportunities to use the gifts we’ve been given. Opportunities to tell others of the grace and goodness of our King. Opportunities to give glory to God for all He is and has done for us.
Do we see the opportunities when they come? If we see them, do we take them?
Sometimes I hear people pray for more opportunities to share the gospel with those who don’t yet know the Lord. While this is a good and noble prayer, I wonder if it’s not more appropriate to pray for boldness to share when those opportunities come? Because they’re everywhere — at the grocery store, at work, at school, online — everywhere.
As I think about the countless opportunities He gives me in this life, I think my biggest need in that area is for discernment and obedience. Discernment to know which opportunities to take and which are not for me, and obedience to take them and follow through. To not waste an opportunity because of fear, selfishness, or laziness. To be willing to sacrifice and serve.

I waste a lot of opportunities because my face is glued to the screen of my phone. Here’s to putting my phone down and keeping my eyes open for opportunities to do good!
Very timely word for the week as I’m always seeking opportunities to share the HOPE of Jesus Christ!
Lord, give me one more chance,
this is all I ask.
So much of life has been a trance
and I have failed my task.
I could have been a better man,
could have offered grace,
but I preferred another plan,
that Narcissus-face.
Now so little time is left,
how can I make amends?
In my self-made warp and weft
I have misplaced my friends.
And how on earth will I forget
the life I’ve filled with regret?
Such a great post, Kate. You’re right. Boldness is what I need to pray to have more of. And discernment. It’s easy to want to do everything…or nothing. I want to be attuned to the Lord’s prompting when He reveals an opportunity. Thanks for your insights!

So true that there are opportunities everywhere! I think praying discernment is a good idea – because perhaps not every opportunity is for me. I need wisdom to know the difference.
And then when I know, let me set my face like a flint to go after it!
Oh my goodness, I think you’ve read my mind! “To not waste an opportunity because of fear, selfishness, or laziness” is my prayer! I am guilty of all three and know that I’ve missed out on blessing someone or receiving a blessing myself because of it! I’m trying to do better at being open to the opportunities God offers me.
