This week’s writing prompt is: SACRIFICE
Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.Â
This past week, my sister donated 60% of her liver to a family friend in need of a transplant.
(What?! Who does that?!)
I first heard about her plan back in November, when she called to tell me she was a match and asked me what I thought about the possibility of such a procedure.
My first thought was, “I had two C-sections. I’m definitely too selfish to willingly get cut open again.”
But she did it.
She gave part of her body so someone else could have life.
It’s such a living picture of the gospel — how Jesus Christ give all of His body so His people could have life . . . and not just a few more years or decades of life on this earth, but life eternal.
His was the ultimate sacrifice.
The ultimate example of suffering and giving Himself with no benefit in return.
Yesterday I went to visit my sister in the hospital, and she was in a lot of pain. It was hard to watch her suffer and not be able to do anything to help or relieve her discomfort.
I watched as she clenched her jaw and focused on one breath at a time, and I was filled with admiration at her willingness to give such a sacrificial, generous gift at such a great cost to herself with no expectation of anything in return.
A truly selfless act.
An act of love.
STOP.

What comes to mind when you think of the word, SACRIFICE? Share with us in five minutes or less:Â
Once more unto the breach, dear friends,
once more, or else instead,
we’ll witness how our time ends,
and join our hallowed dead.
We’ve now raised macaroni-men,
the louche of the West End
untroubled to remember when
our island would not bend.
But hear the hordes roar ‘cross the waves
and beat unto our coast;
now only steel and courage saves,
the will of Nelson’s ghost.
Again from plowshares, swords are forged
for King and country and St. George.
These selfless acts always amaze me. May God bring your sister relief from pain and a speedy recovery. I also pray that I would be able to do the same if presented with this request. Truly an act of love.
Wow! Praying that she recovers quickly! What an act of love.
Such courage and compassion! I hope she soon finds relief from her pain! This is a true picture of sacrifice!
What a wonderful gift your sisiter has given. Two lives restored!
Actually isn’t every sacrifice a gain? As I sacrifice sugar and four, I gain better health and lose weight in the process. As I sacricie those extra inutes of sleep, I gain precious time with the Lord.
Such a precious and, yes, selfless thing your sister was able and willing to do. Praying that she will continue to recover, her pain will be managed and that she will heal completely.
Wow! My high school best friend had a kidney transplant. Her mom gave her her transplant.
Wow, your sister sounds amazing and inspriational. (It must be a family blessing) I hope she and your family friend recover quickly.
