Speaking of prompts, this week’s writing prompt is: LESS
After living in South Africa for ten years, my concept of “The American Dream” could be summed up as “more, more, more.” But now that we’ve been back in the States for over seven years (!!!), I sense a shift in some pockets of the culture. It seems a number of people have grown weary with the constant striving for more, for doing more and being more.
I’m sensing a shift toward less — less noise, less busyness, less competition, less comparison. And I think it’s a healthy shift.
John the Baptist’s words about Jesus come to mind: “He must become greater; I must become less” (John 3:30).
More of Him, less of me.
But what does that look like in real life, on a day-to-day basis?
I think it could look like more serving, less selfishness. More giving, less keeping. More listening, less talking. More asking, less answering.
What about you? What do you need less of in your life? What is hindering you from serving and loving Him more?
May our motto always be, “More of Him, less of me.” Amen.

Well said, Kate! I’m trying to talk less so I can listen more. I want to contemplate the character of Christ more so that less of me insists on pushing through.
The days are getting harder
as cancer takes a bummer-toll;
people say, back off, be smarter,
but that’s not how I roll.
There is so much fun to have,
and I intend to keep
the party going ’till the grave,
and now, hey, who needs sleep?
So what, I cough with every step,
and now it’s foaming blood;
got to laugh to keep my rep,
so Bubba, it’s all good,
and when my dying day is here,
come on up, Barb’s got FREE BEER!
more giving, less keeping. more God, less me. Good. 🙂 #12 this week.
Thanks by the by for posting these weekly word prompts. 🙂
I’m coming to the same place, enough is enough. What I want more of is time with family, friends, my mom, and my Bible. Thanks for another nice post.
