This week’s FMF writing prompt is: HELPÂ
GO.
One of the most humbling and rewarding aspects of sharing my story in my memoir, A Place to Land, is hearing from readers who say the book helped them. The writing process itself — spending hours, days, weeks, months, and years working through my story, writing and re-writing, editing, deleting, and starting over — was more therapeutic and helpful to me than I ever imagined it could be . . . but it’s an even greater gift to hear that it helped someone else. To be honest, during the writing process, I wondered if it was worth it . . . but I prayed and asked God, “If You can use this to help just one person, please give me the strength and ability to finish it.”
My encouragement to you is this: You never know who your story might help, or how or when it might do so. Your job is not to do the changing or transforming — it’s to be faithful with the gifts, talents, and stories God has given you, and to steward them well. You will likely never know how many people you have helped in this life — and that’s okay. God knows, and He deserves all the glory.
STOP.

You may not know what it’s worth,
what you do or write or say,
but your thought may just give birth
to a hopeless soul’s new day,
throwing light out from the dark,
throwing back the endless gloom,
making God’s bright golden mark
on what once had been a tomb.
If you’re tempted just to walk
away from what you might have given,
maybe better have a talk
with the Holy Dude who’s risen
and who’s given you a chance
to call another to the dance.
Amen! I think hearing the words, ‘What you wrote really helped me’ makes all the agony of writing worth it.
Amen!
2 Corinthians 1.3-4 He helps us. Our story helps others.
Amen. Thank you so much for sharing your insights and encouragement. Glory to God.
