This week’s FMF writing prompt is: LIFT
Ready, set . . . GO:
My youngest son has been working out diligently for several months. Sometimes my husband will go down to the basement to lift weights with him, but this past week I was the only other person home and my son invited me to join him. I agreed mostly to amuse him, which I’m sure I did.
I won’t share the specifics of how many pounds each of us lifted, except that his number was probably four times more than mine. 😉
Toward the end of our workout, my son was using the barbell for an exercise that required him to stand up and lower the bar behind his head. After several reps, his arms started shaking and he held the bar behind his head without lifting it.
“Do you need help?” I asked.
“Yup,” he admitted, to my surprise.
I stood behind him and used both arms to ease some of his burden and help him get the bar back over his head.
On my own, I wouldn’t have been able to lift that much weight. On his own, he struggled to complete the exercise after exerting so much energy already.
At the risk of sounding cliche, this brief interaction reminded me of the significance of our roles in the body of Christ. Even when some of us may seem stronger and able to lift a heavier load, at times it can become too much to bear. At that point, others of us who may seem weaker have the opportunity to graciously step in and offer additional support to ease the burden and help them reach their goal.
STOP.

You've got Uber, you've got Lyft,
with cars so pert and pretty,
but Yellow Cab's to me a gift
when I'm in New York City.
They've got a smell well-loved of old,
with seats fit for a king,
and monster trunks so sure to hold
whatever I might bring.
The driver may be Billy Bob
or Ahmed or Quan Li,
making best part of the job
to shine with courtesy
and ask 'bout my life, how I am
in midst of honking traffic jam.
A wonderful reminder to reach out and also to ask for help when we need it.

Today Ihave left my eyes very early. And this is no coincidence. I like to get up early, but I usually can't get myself to do it. And on the eve before going to bed, I began to pray and ask that the Lord Himself awakened me. An early quiet morning is a wonderful time to pray, be saturated with Scripture, be inspired by truths, and strengthened by faith. It gives a powerful lift of strength and invigorates for the whole day. Blessings to all.
