This week’s FMF writing prompt is: CARE
Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.
This past week marked ten years since my mom passed away. Of course I couldn’t help but reflect on those final months, weeks, and days before she died after a long battle with cancer. As I thought back to that difficult, grief-filled season, my mind also filled with the faces of so many people who walked with us and cared for us so well during that time. Faithful friends who stayed the course and showed their love and support in countless tangible ways.
Some of you remember my request to pray for one of our FMF community members, Cindy, and one of her grandsons a few months ago. If you recall, Cindy’s almost-one-year-old grandson had a sudden diagnosis of a severe medical condition that led to a months-long hospital stay, turning their extended family’s plans and routines upside down. While they still have a lifelong journey ahead, I logged in to social media yesterday and saw that Sutton was able to go home from the hospital after weeks and weeks as a patient. Photos showed that the family was greeted by a parade of cars in their local town, including fire trucks welcoming them home.
My heart swelled seeing such a beautiful show of support. They say “it takes a village.” And it’s true. What a blessing when the Lord surrounds us with people who truly care, especially during times of need.
