I think this is my seventh time participating in a 31-Day Writing Challenge in October, and every year it is such a fruitful and rewarding (and challenging!) exercise.

This year I’ll be sharing a series on Instagram called 31 Prayers for Writers.

This week’s FMF writing prompt (and the first prompt in our 31-Day Challenge) is: NEED

need

Each of the prayers I wrote for this series includes a Scripture verse, followed by prayers that follow the ACTS method — Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication. Here’s the first five-minute installment . . . I hope it’s a blessing to you!

2 Corinthians 9:8

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” ~ 2 Corinthians 9:8, ESV

Adoration

Lord, You are such a generous, giving God. You supply all my needs. You are gracious and merciful, and abundant in love and provision. You care for me more than I will ever be able to understand. You are a God who blesses beyond measure or comprehension.

Confession

I confess that I do not often acknowledge the full extent of your blessings. I am often discontent, wanting what I do not yet have. I am not thankful for what You have provided, and I frequently ask for more. Forgive me, Lord, for my lack of gratitude and contentment.

Thanksgiving

Father, thank You that You know my needs better than I do, and that You do supply all that I need at all times. Thank You for continuing to bless me abundantly, even when I don’t acknowledge that the blessings come from You. Thank You for supplying all that I need to abound in every good work. You are a good God, and I do not deserve Your mercy or kindness.

Supplication

Lord, please help me to be obedient to carry out the works You have prepared in advance for me to do. Help me to push away any excuses I may be tempted to make to avoid doing the good work You have called me to do. Help me to lay aside my selfishness. Stir within me a desire to serve others with my writing. Help me to write not only for myself, but for Your glory and honour, and for the good of others.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
