This week’s FMF writing prompt is: WANDER
There’s a quote that says, “Choose a job you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” I have been privileged to serve as a copy editor for various writing projects over the past several years. It’s always enjoyable, but sometimes I get to work on a project that is an absolute delight.
The Wandering Wise Men was one such project. Not only is the project itself remarkably well done, it was created by two friends I went to college with.
Eric and Meredith Schrotenboer have put together a beautiful, captivating new Christmas resource for families called The Wandering Wise Men.
This set includes a children’s picture book, a family devotional, and three plush wise men for children and families to enjoy. Have you ever heard of “Elf on a Shelf”? Well, you can create a similar experience for the kids in your life using the biblical story of Jesus’ birth.
Families will discover the historical, geographical, and cultural context of the wise men story in the 37-day devotional that starts on December 1 and goes through January 6, the celebration of Epiphany.
The picture book is filled with gorgeous original artwork by one of my favorite local artists, Joel Tanis.
If you’re looking for a new resource for your own family or to gift to friends, I highly recommend The Wandering Wise Men.

Looks like a great gift for the kids…of all ages.
The Magi must have wondered
as they travelled far,
was their effort squandered
on following that Star?
They were human, after all,
and certainty is undercut
when at times the tale seems tall,
and into mind creeps the “But…’
And then they came across the scene,
a newborn family;
did it, then, seem a lovely dream,
or was Eternity
the glow that held them ’round about,
the Light that never would go out?
I’m so glad to see a replacement for elf on a shelf!
Very cute.
