This week’s FMF writing prompt is: HEAVY
Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.
The word that keeps coming to mind when I think about the events of the past several days in Ukraine is heavy.
My heart is so heavy over the devastating events and atrocities taking place there now as I speak.
My heart is heavy for the innocent men, women, and children who will never be the same.
My heart is heavy for the brokenness of this world, the prevalence of sin and evil, the damage that cannot be undone.
And so I pray. I think about Jesus’ invitation for me to come to Him and hand over my heavy load in exchange for His easy yoke and light burden. I pray the same for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia who did not ask for this war and do not want any part of it — that they would run to Christ and find rest for their souls in the midst of this unimaginable devastation and traumatic experience.
May the Lord show mercy on that land, may He intervene quickly, may He stop the wicked ones in their tracks, may He surround the innocent with an army of angels, may He restore peace as only He can do.
Lord, come quickly.
Amen.

These, the heaviest of days
in many bright and idle moons
show that crime and cruelty pays,
and it won’t be over soon.
Somehow, somewhere we forgot
the circumstance of keeping peace,
and came to feel that we had got
right to buy ourselves release
from the grim-faced arts of war,
the need for watchmen in the night.
Tolerance would close the door
on the need to stand and fight.
And this is how world’s hell begins,
with others paying for our sins.
I agree 💯 %, the news is so hard to hear but important to pay attention to if for no other reason than to know how to pray.
Yes to all of this. Praying for angel armies too. I cannot watch the news it’s too heavy for me, but the Ukraine is on my mind and heart.
I feel much the same way. The heaviness makes it almost too hard to write, yet also compels me to write as it is SOMETHING when I feel at a loss. But the writing is hard to share.
Amen to all of this.
Amen!
