Welcome to this week’s edition of the Five Minute Friday writing prompt link-up. Whether you’re planning to write on a laptop and share with others, post on your phone to Instagram, or handwrite in your personal journal, we’re so glad you’re here. It’s the writing that matters.
This week’s FMF writing prompt is: HEAVY
Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.
The word that keeps coming to mind when I think about the events of the past several days in Ukraine is heavy.
My heart is so heavy over the devastating events and atrocities taking place there now as I speak.
My heart is heavy for the innocent men, women, and children who will never be the same.
My heart is heavy for the brokenness of this world, the prevalence of sin and evil, the damage that cannot be undone.
And so I pray. I think about Jesus’ invitation for me to come to Him and hand over my heavy load in exchange for His easy yoke and light burden. I pray the same for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia who did not ask for this war and do not want any part of it — that they would run to Christ and find rest for their souls in the midst of this unimaginable devastation and traumatic experience.
May the Lord show mercy on that land, may He intervene quickly, may He stop the wicked ones in their tracks, may He surround the innocent with an army of angels, may He restore peace as only He can do.
Lord, come quickly.
