This week’s FMF writing prompt is: CHOOSE
Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.Â
My daughter had to make a big decision recently.
After visiting ten different colleges and universities and applying (and getting accepted) to eleven, she had narrowed down her search to two schools.
The biggest difference between the two was distance: one was thirty minutes from home, the other was three hours and thirty minutes from home.
Other than that, the list of pros and cons she created to try to help her make the decision was pretty equal on both sides.
We prayed with her and for her, and she agonized for two months, completely torn about what to do.
We told her she really couldn’t go wrong, that both schools were good choices and she would get a great education at either one of them.
At the end of the day, she had to choose. One of the schools gave a deadline of March 1st to respond to a scholarship offer, so she was forced to pick one.
Watching her agonize made me think back to similar decisions I’ve had to make in my life, decisions that could potentially significantly impact the trajectory of the days, weeks, months, and years that followed. And while I still get worked up sometimes about big decisions like that, I’ve also grown into a sort of comfort in knowing that no matter what, God is with me. No matter what choice I make, I will still be held in His capable arms.
So the next time you’re facing a fork in the road, remember this: God will be there no matter which way you choose.
STOP.

I really love to get a load
of Yogi Berra’s timeless wit,
like, “When there’s a fork in the road,
go ahead and take it.”
Baseball’s not an easy path,
few have what it really takes,
but Yogi always got a laugh
with “We make too many wrong mistakes.”
And at one spring training
he made the work a breeze
by his way of explaining,
“Pair ’em up in threes.”,
but here’s the one I find most fun:
“It won’t be over ’till it’s done.”
Feeling the agony of that college choice process. Thank you for sharing how difficult it can be to choose and how much more difficult it can be to watch someone else have to choose.
God is with us either way!
I am feeling the same right now Kate!! Thank you for sharing. Timely word choice for the week!
