This week’s FMF writing prompt is: STORY

story

For my post this week, I’m sharing a few excerpts from Share Your Story in hopes that the following will whet your appetite:

I believe in the power of story. I love telling stories. But I’ve realized that I usually cut the story short before I get to the most important part—the part about God. The part that holds eternal value. Too often I’m guilty of leaving God out of the story.

Psalm 105 says, “Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! . . . Remember the wondrous works that he has done . . .” (vv. 1–2, 5a).

I don’t know about you, but when I read this passage, it does not sound like a suggestion. I don’t read it as, “If and when you feel like it, you might consider the vague possibility of casually mentioning to someone else what God has done.” No; I would argue that the verses from this psalm could be considered a command. We are told to make His deeds known among the peoples, to remember and tell of all His wondrous works. When I think about it that way, sharing my story becomes less about me tooting my own horn and more of an act of obedience to God’s Word.

You may feel as though you’re not famous enough, important enough, or capable enough to share your story. Perhaps fear has kept you from fulfilling the Lord’s calling on your life to testify about His goodness and grace in your life. If that’s the case, remember this: You are a child of the one true King. You are His ambassador. His Spirit is in you, and will guide you in truth. “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23). He is faithful, and He is worthy of all praise and glory.

STOP.
