This week’s FMF writing prompt is: CHAPTER

chapter

My daughter adores books. She can’t get enough. She has a pillow in her room with the words, “Just one more chapter.” That’s always how it’s been since she could barely sit up on her own. She started reading just before she turned three years old.

This week, she graduates from high school and I find myself asking for “just one more chapter.” As this chapter closes and she looks ahead to the next one, I’m excited for her and sad all at the same time. To be entirely cliche, I know we’ve been raising these kids to launch them, but as the world so often reminds us, it just goes so fast.

I thank God for each stage of life I’ve been privileged to be her mom, and I look forward to what God will do in her life in the weeks, months, and years to come. Closing a chapter is not always easy, but we have so much to be grateful for.

To all those parents who have already launched kids: well done. To those with graduates this year: I feel you. 😉 And to those with children still in day care, preschool, elementary: As the saying goes, the days are long, but the years are short.

May we steward each chapter we’re given well, and may we continue to trust the Lord, the author of the story, as we turn the page.

STOP.
