This week’s FMF writing prompt is: RELY
I like to think of myself as a fairly independent person — or rather, perhaps it is more accurate to say I like to be in control. Ahem.Â
But the Lord continually reminds me just how dependent and reliant (and not in control) I really am.
When I think about it, I rely on so many people and things, often without a conscious thought. I rely on the electricity company to give me working lights and outlets. I rely on the pilot to get my aircraft safely to its destination. I rely on my mechanic to make sure the brakes on my car actually work. I rely on my doctor to give me an accurate diagnosis and the proper course of treatment.
There are oh, so many things I do not know or understand and I rely on oh, so many people to help me function and live this glorious life.
But every once in a while, those people I rely on disappoint me. They fail me. They betray me.
Power outages happen unexpectedly. Planes malfunction. Brakes fail. Doctors get it wrong or make a mistake.
As fallen human beings living in a broken world, we will constantly face shortcomings, disappointments, and worse.
And yet there is One who will never fail us, never betray us, never let us down. His name is Jesus, and He is Lord of all. The only One we can truly rely on for our every breath and beyond.
STOP.

I learned something long ago,
so long it seemed eternity
that I came so hard to know
that the only one to trust was me.
The world was one of enemies,
especially those I fancied close,
and they counted victories
when they betrayed, and rubbed my nose
in my choices to rely
on the friendly masks they wore,
and so it behooved to deny
the innocence that bruised and tore
the heart I had, foolishly flawed
that should have been a gift to God.
Just under five minutes.
You said it Kate. Recovering control freak here. I might get the saying wrong but it goes something like this— I don’t have ducks, and their not in a row, I have squirles and their all over the place.
Ps: Coming to you from my new website.
