This week’s FMF writing prompt is: CLARIFY

Setting a timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.

If you read my post last week, you’ll know that my daughter was home from college this past week for five glorious nights. As she was here, we talked quite a bit about what major she might choose, which courses would be involved, what career options she may have if she chose that route, and more.

Sitting next to her at the table was my youngest, who is now sixteen, a junior, and taking the PSAT and starting college visits of his own. Seeing them at this stage of their lives reminded me how stressful it could seem when I was their age. So many decisions, and each one seemed as if it had the potential to change the whole trajectory of my life.

I realize now, of course, that God sees the big picture and is busy stitching each thread of our lives into a grand tapestry that we can’t see all at once.

Yes, we should pray and seek wisdom from friends and mentors and advisors, but ultimately, the choices we make will still be used by God for the good of those who love Him — even if they may not seem like the “right” decision at the time.

I can easily get stressed or put pressure on myself to try to clarify my future based on what I know now, but the reality is: I am not even promised tomorrow. As the saying goes, “I don’t know what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future.”

Amen?

So we pray and we trust, and we step forward in faith, believing that God will use even our poor decisions for His glory.

STOP.
