This week’s FMF writing prompt link-up is: FINALLY
After six weeks and two days away, my husband finally arrived home yesterday after a trip overseas to help his mom.
Such is the life of a cross-continental couple, but in twenty years of marriage, this is the longest we’ve ever had to be apart at one time.
It felt like a *long* time, you guys! I mean, he left on April 1st . . . a lot of life happened in the whole month of April and half of May!
I can now say I have much more empathy for military spouses during periods of deployment. I know many have to go for months and sometimes a year or more without seeing each other.
As I counted down for my husband’s return, I thought about Christ’s return. Am I eagerly anticipating his arrival as much as I anticipated seeing my husband at the airport?
This evening, I served cake at the graduation ceremony at my kids’ high school. I don’t have a graduate this year, but I had one last year and will have one next year. For many, I’m sure tonight felt like a “finally” moment — finally done with twelve years of education.
As I left the building and walked to my car, I thought again about the return of Christ. After twelve years working toward this particular goal, these high school graduates have much to celebrate over all that they have accomplished.
But how much more will we have to celebrate when we finally meet our Maker face-to-face.
STOP.

Finally it can be told,
the story that went undetected
from the hoary days of old
when my life got misdirected
and I went and took myself
as something greater than a joke,
putting humble on the shelf
with ’nuff pride to make me choke.
Well, the Lord was good to me,
and He opened up my eyes
so that I could plainly see
much to my distinct surprise
that God has so much stuff to do
that He’ll need clowns in Heaven, too.
Under three minutes! And does it show or what?
Amen.
Yes, our long waits call for a ‘finally!’. But now I’m bamboozled, because I wrote what I thought was a response to this week’s prompt word, only to find that I’m weeks out of step and I was looking at an old email. What a plonker!
So I wrote a post about ‘limits’ instead.
My dilemma is now do I read any more posts about ‘finally’, or do I wait to write a correct response first? Silly me. Daft as a brush!
