This week’s FMF writing prompt is: SECOND

I feel sad today.

I don’t feel like writing.

Like everyone else, I woke up to the news of the American Airlines jet that collided with a Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac.

67 dead.

I can’t imagine.

Nobody saw it coming.

The 64 people people on the commercial jet were nearly at their destination. Some might have been asleep. Some were probably reading. Others may have been listening to music. One wife texted her husband that they were landing in twenty minutes.

Then, in an instant — in a split second with no warning whatsoever — their lives were snuffed out.

Gone.

I had to go to a parent meeting at my kid’s school this evening. The same school that his friend attended before he died three-and-a-half months ago.

Every time I’ve walked into the building since then, my stomach tenses. I have to blink back tears. I don’t know how my son does it every day.

His friend woke up one Saturday morning in October to go four-wheeling in a rural area, and never came home.

One second he was here, the next second he was with his Maker.

The reality is, none of us knows how long we have left. We are not guaranteed tomorrow, or even tonight.

Which begs the question: Are you ready?

STOP.

In case you missed it, as of the time of publication of this post, my book Letters to Grief is on a crazy sale on Amazon! I’m talking the lowest price I’ve seen since it released a year ago.

I don’t know how long it will last, but it’s currently marked down to $9.99, PLUS when I log into my Amazon account, I have the option to clip an additional 30% off coupon, taking the final price to just $7! Say what?!
