This week’s FMF writing prompt is: WORSHIP
Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.Â
Last month I had the privilege of attending what has become an annual working writers’ retreat with a handful of women. This weekend, I got invited to join a different group at the same place, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.
In January on the first night of the retreat, I posted the following on Instagram:
I admit that it would be nice to make some money off the writing work that I do, but every time I receive those royalty checks in the mail, I am reminded afresh that this work, these hours I pour into putting words on the page . . . they are my ministry. A (very) small way the Lord has invited me to use the gifts He has given to (hopefully) glorify Him and (hopefully) be a blessing to others.
And every once in a while (like today!) He gives me a glimpse of some way He used those words and those hours to encourage someone else (thanks for sharing, Cindy!). 😉
In our women’s Bible study at church, we’re going through the book, Delighting in God’s Law by Kristie Anyabwile, and I was reminded this past week as we looked at the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20 that one way we show our love for God and for others is through obedience. Our obedience can become an act of worship.
So here again is my act of obedience, my humble offering in a broken vessel, and may the Lord see fit to use the work of my hands to bring about fruit for His kingdom.
STOP.

Do I worship as I write?
I really cannot say.
Perhaps I do, perhaps I might,
but poetry is play,
and I rip through these things real fast
as down the road I go.
Some folks say it’s gonna last,
but baby, I don’t know,
and if it’s just a passing thing
that is all right with me,
’cause all I wanna do is bring
folks to God so they can see
the Holiness I point them towards,
and it’s cool that they forget my words.
