Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.

As many of you know, my youngest son graduated from high school two weeks ago. Many of you also know that his best friend passed away unexpectedly seven-and-a-half months ago.

His friend was supposed to graduate with him, so I knew the ceremony was going to be rough.

When we sat down in the auditorium, I looked at the agenda for the evening and said to my sister, “Okay, I’m going to cry during this speech and that speech,” pointing at the program in my hand.

Ha.

Every single speech acknowledged their lost classmate, student, and friend.

I cried through the whole thing, and yet it felt right to honor him in such a meaningful way.

You guys, his sister even came and spoke from the podium. (Her name was not in the program!) What a brave and beautiful thing.

With a graduating class of only sixty students, they have all felt this loss in a deep and profound way.

It will mark them forever, and yet they each gave testimony to how the Lord has sustained them in the midst of such a dark, dark valley.

To God be the glory.
