This week’s FMF writing prompt is: LAZY

Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.
Now that I’m in this new phase of empty nesting, my daily schedule is not nearly as full as it was for the past twenty years.
No more music lessons, sports practices, soccer games, band concerts, cross country meets, parent teacher conferences.
And as it turns out, I don’t mind being less busy. It’s kind of nice, actually. (Granted, I truly loved every phase of parenting and would gladly do it all over again!)
But why does it feel so countercultural — almost scandalous — to not be overly busy?
Shouldn’t I be filling my schedule with something else?
In a society that prides itself on busyness, schedules packed to the brim, and productivity, should I feel guilty when I crawl into bed at night to read a novel for fun?
I haven’t figured out the answer for sure yet, but in the meantime, I’m simply grateful for this slower pace, even if it doesn’t last long.
STOP.

And psst . . . I don’t know how long this will last, but my latest book is currently at the lowest price it’s been since it released in January . . . If you’ve been thinking of buying, now is the time! ![]()

Nope, I am not lazy,
even with my feet propped high
and the Bud has got me hazy,
so please don’t even try
to tell me of the industry
that God expects from those He’s chosen.
Hard work, babe, just isn’t me,
and so please do not be nosin’
around the mess in the garage;
I’ll get to it one day.
Honey-do list, yeah, it’s large,
but something’s always in the way
of getting these things done ’round here…
hey, please toss me another beer!
LOL! 🙂
Your schedule sounds pretty full to me, LOL.
I thought I would be less busy when my kids were grown and out of the house. But somehow I have found new and different things to fill my time.
Lazy is the noise that hangs loosely on the shoulder of the one defined by their doing. I should know. I am one. As often as I try to stop, the HISS of lazy slithers off the tongue of the serpent and the noose threatens to tighten. So I dare not try. Dare not care. Dare not plan. No. I must do one more chore. One more thing. Check one more email. One more load of laundry. One more… don’t be lazy, do one more hisses the serpent. Dare I ignore it? Dare I toss the noose into the fire where it belongs? Dare I stop judging myself and free me up to be? And free me up to stop judging those around me too? Dare I? Lord Jesus have mercy on me.
Ha! We had the same frame of mind (kind of) for our posts!
