This week’s FMF writing prompt is: SUSTAIN

Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.Â
If you’ve been following along with the FMF community for a while, you may already know that my daughter graduated from college this past Sunday. Woo hoo! We had a delightful weekend together as a family celebrating her hard work and accomplishments.
As I sat in the audience and watched each graduate walk across the stage to receive their degree, I was struck by the visible picture of God’s sustaining grace.
At the end of the ceremony, the president of the college asked the faculty and staff to stand up to be acknowledged, followed by the parents, grandparents, and siblings in the sanctuary who had contributed to the graduates’ growth and success. He then took time to acknowledge the international students among the graduating class — several of whom faced significant challenges with visa issues and some who faced persecution in their home countries. The president shared that some students had family members in prison for their faith.
And yet, in the midst of such unimaginable trials, the Lord sustained each one of those students to the point where they could walk across that stage, bear witness to His grace and mercy, and receive a symbol of His faithfulness.
The truth is, whether you hold a degree or not, the Lord is also upholding you and sustaining you through each step of your journey with Him.
STOP.

It’s beer that now sustains me,
and helps me pass my daily test.
Keep your Red Bull and your tea;
Foster’s is the very best
for damping down the crushing pain
that feels just like defeat.
Foster’s helps me to remain
confident that I can eat
a meal to provide sustenance
(white rice with some lean chicken),
and one that will take me hence,
still alive and kickin’,
to face cancer with a smile
that a pint can make worthwhile.
