This week’s Five Minute Friday writing prompt is: OUTCOME

outcome

I have FIFA World Cup fans in my house, and it fascinates me that in these early rounds of the tournament, there could literally be any outcome. Sure, there are fan favorites and statistical reasons why one team might be more likely to prevail over another, but when it comes down to it, anything could happen.

As we’ve seen in several games already, the outcome may only be determined in overtime or a penalty shootout long after the original ninety minutes of the game.

Teams like Germany can be eliminated unexpectedly, and Croatia can have an overtime goal to tie the match rescinded due to an offside call against Portugal. It’s anybody’s game.

It makes me realize afresh that life is kind of like that, too. We really don’t know what tomorrow holds. Anything can happen.

We make our plans, but the Lord’s will prevails.

The only outcome we can be sure about is that one day we will meet our Maker — and those who profess faith in Christ will experience eternal pleasures in His presence in glory.

That is the only reality we can be sure of . . . and for that reason, we would do well to ask the Lord to start preparing our hearts now for that glorious day.

STOP.
