This week’s FMF writing prompt is: HALF

Earlier this month, I turned forty-five. For the first time in my life, my age felt like a marker. More than likely, it means at least half my life is behind me. It could mean more than three-quarters of my life has already passed. My mom died when she was fifty-nine. My dad is still alive at ninety-one. You just never know, but forty-five felt significant in a “passage-of-time, more-than-halfway” sort of way.
I felt okay about that. I mean, if I think back to my earliest memories and how distant they seem, I think, Gosh, if this is only the halfway mark, I have a long way to go . . . 😉
I guess the point is we really don’t know, so I am reminded about the need to continually ask the Lord to number my days aright, that I may gain a heart of wisdom.
In less morbid and perhaps less spiritual news, I am *so* close to reaching the halfway point in the book I’ve been working on since February. As in, 48.47 percent done, to be exact. I know this because it’s a 365-day devotional (gah!) and I just finished Entry #177.
Though I may not get another forty-five years in this life, hopefully the Lord will spare me long enough to complete the remaining 188 entries before my deadline. 😉
STOP.
And psst . . . speaking of writing and deadlines . . .

I’m half the man from yesterday,
and twice the man I’ll be tomorrow,
but that doesn’t mean I have to stay
all bound up in grief and sorrow.
Cancer’s taken much, it’s true,
and tries to drive me to the floor,
but all I find I have to do
is open Christ’s inviting door
to be welcomed to a space
in which meaning’s waiting there
to offer everlasting grace
and eternal love and care
through which I’ll one day be restored
by the shining Risen Lord.
Hi Kate. I’m the new gal. I really enjoyed this.
So glad you’re here, Debby! And glad to hear you enjoyed it! 🙂
