This week’s FMF writing prompt is: APPROVE
Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.Â
Approval is a big struggle for me. I don’t know how or when or why it started, but I am a big approval junkie. I guess it’s twofold: I want to make people happy and I don’t want to be blamed when things go wrong. Is that too much to ask? 😉
I go through phases when I try harder to not be such a people pleaser . . . and then I inevitably sink back into the same spot over and over again.
I know the truth of Scripture: that God is the only One I should aim to please and that His approval is the only one that truly matters.
So why do I still care so much?
I don’t think it’s primarily related to wanting to be popular or liked. I think it stems more from wanting people to be happy and not mad.
(Is this turning into a self-proclaimed therapy session?) 😉
I suppose, as I have done over the years, it will require more thought, prayer, and intentional effort to dig deeper into the whys and also the steps to care less about the happiness of others and more about the glory of God.

of the things I say and do.

Yes, I often ask myself why I am doing something, is it for someone’s approval or am I avoiding something so that I don’t meet with disapproval?
Same!
