This week’s FMF writing prompt is: RESPONSIBLE

responsible

In last week’s post, I made a confession: I want to make people happy and I don’t want to be blamed when things go wrong.

This week’s prompt is closely related. I’ve been thinking about it for the past week or so, and I continue to pinpoint occasions when I labor over a decision — sometimes even agonize — because I don’t want to be held responsible if something goes wrong because of my choice and someone ends up unhappy.

Here’s a recent example: My husband and I were planning a brief getaway to visit friends. On our way to see them, we planned to spend two nights in a different city on the route to our final destination.

I researched and researched possible accommodation options, read reviews, compared prices, checked locations, and finally decided on a place. But then I had to choose which room. In a three-story building, did I want the second-floor room that was further from the elevator?  Or should I choose the third floor room that was close to the elevator but didn’t have any occupants above to make noise stomping around on the ceiling above me?

I finally asked my husband which room he preferred. He chose the one away from the elevator on the second floor.

When we got there, he was happy with how the room looked. But then — of course — when we tried to sleep that night, the people in the room above us were pacing back and forth from one end of their room to the other.

I looked at my husband and he said, “We should’ve gotten a room on the third floor.”

STOP. Time’s up! 🙂

Joyce will explore how Christian women can help each other by uncovering and addressing blind spots,
supporting each other in focus and faithfulness to stay the course, and becoming more open to God and each other.

I have personally witnessed how Joyce and her dear friend JoeAnn spurred one another on to love and good deeds through their friendship and spiritual companionship, and I’m eager to learn from her many years of wisdom and faith in action.

Joyce is offering the free workshop on Thursday, September 24th and Saturday, September 26th.
