This week’s FMF writing prompt is: SIGHT

Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.
Ever since I was in fifth grade, I wore glasses. As in, strong prescription glasses. I eventually graduated to contact lenses but my eyesight was so bad, when I woke up in the mornings, I couldn’t even read the numbers on the clock next to my bed.
In 2015, I used some unexpected inheritance money to get LASIK surgery to correct my vision. The doctor told me I would probably make it to around age fifty before I needed reading glasses.
Well, in the last eleven months or so, my vision has deteriorated dramatically. I’m pretty sure it’s hormone-related. (Yay!)
I got these glasses (shown below) in November but as soon as I put them on, I could tell the prescription was off. The optometrist said I would get used to it, but she was wrong. 😉
I went to a different eye doctor in March and sure enough, I needed a different prescription. This time I got progressive lenses (hello, middle age!) . . . much better!
However . . . This past week a pin fell out of my new glasses and one of the sides was disconnected from the frame. I had to put these old frames on to drive to the eye clinic for a repair. As soon as I put on the glasses with the wrong prescription, I felt so discombobulated. Thankfully my drive was less than ten minutes but it was a trip!
I was reminded of the importance of sight and the ability to see clearly and well — physically and spiritually.
STOP.

In the time I’ve gotten older
and so often hit my head,
my vision’s gotten stronger, bolder;
shouldn’t it be the other way instead?
I can see stars in the day,
read books from across the room.
Concussions, they can really pay,
and not be harbingers of doom,
but there is one thing to mention;
my eyes don’t focus quite the same;
an eyepatch is a good invention
so I don’t go do something lame
like lose my footing and direction
because of lack of depth perception.
Love how practical this post on FMF Writing Prompt Link-up :: Sight is. It filled in a couple of gaps after I went down a rabbit hole on the subject lately. Noting note 60770 so I remember where I read it. Thanks for taking the time to write it!
never did contacts or Lasix…. both just no… putting something into or near my eyes freaked with my fear of eventual blindness.
In my sixties I now have trifocals. I don’t use the tri much at all that I’ve noticed, I just take off my glasses and squint! 🙂 silliness I know. Fmf13 visiting
