This week’s FMF writing prompt is: YOUNG
Ready? GO.Â
My daughter turns 15 this weekend.
Though we have an older child through adoption, she was the one who made me a mom. 15 years ago. I was so young then. Had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I gave birth in a foreign country and sort of just figured things out as we went along, with an abundance of grace and help from above.
The Lord has been so faithful and kind. So gracious and merciful.
She starts driver’s training next month.
How did we get here?
As the saying often goes to young moms especially, “The days are long but the years are short.”
The years are short, and now we have so few left before she finishes high school and may be out of the house. Her need of me seems to diminish each week, but I suppose that is the point, right?
To raise them up and let them fly . . .
I’ll have a birthday 10 days after hers, and though it’s not quite a milestone birthday, I’m getting close. I could cringe over the seasons that have passed and will never be again, or I could thank God for this undeserved gift of life and the many blessings He continues to pour out each and every hour of every day.
Time keeps moving, and we don’t know how much of it we have left.

Kate, I am grateful for the FMF community. I just want you to know that!
Ah, driver training!
When I was young, thought use of brake
was really wholly bad,
and that was true youthful mistake
for there’s much fun to be had
in the glorious handbrake turn
on narrow country lane;
between stone walls the tires burn,
and I am thought insane
by those who know my wisdom not,
by those of timid soul,
by those who their own youth forgot
(the years take such a toll!).
So hammer down, and spin that wheel;
it’s testing death that makes life real.
Have a wonderful time celebrating your daughter this weekend!!
