In keeping with this week’s five-day Hope*Writers Instagram writing challenge . . .

This week’s FMF Writing Prompt is: POSSIBILITY

possibility

Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.

Possibility.

In its purest form, the word makes me think of open doors, a blank page, a day off, an empty road with a full tank of gas and no map.

It could go anywhere, become anything.

But the cynical part of me, the part that has been burned too many times, gives pause. It hesitates. It weighs the risks.

It hones in on the lack of surety, the lack of certainty, the lack of guarantee. If it’s just a possibility, what if it doesn’t happen? What if it gets canceled, falls apart, doesn’t work?

The fear of failure creeps in.

The truth is, in this broken, fallen world — and how much more so have we realized it in the past two years living in a pandemic — there are very few guarantees.

Psalm 20:7-8 says, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.”

With Him, we do not speak of possibilities. His promises are guaranteed. He will fulfill every word He speaks. He already has the victory, and He is preparing a place for all who believe and follow Him.

Trusting in Him as Lord and Savior does not mean we hope our salvation might happen. It does not mean that it’s a strong possibility we will be saved. It means He has already done it. He already defeated death. And He will do it for you, too, if you place your faith and hope in Him alone.

STOP.
