Welcome to the last FMF writing prompt link-up of January, and what a January it has been!
It has hardly stopped snowing in West Michigan, and the temperatures have been frigid! Hence this week’s writing prompt . . . 😉

This week’s FMF writing prompt is: COLD

Setting my timer for five minutes, and . . . GO.
Last week, the schools in our area were closed Monday through Friday because of inclement winter weather. It just would not stop snowing, and the temperatures and wind chills were dangerously cold.
Thankfully the roads became clear enough on Friday for me to grip my steering wheel and grind my teeth as I prayed all the way to my annual writing retreat an hour north of where I live.
On Saturday morning when I woke up at the retreat, I opened the weather app on my phone and it said the actual temperature (not wind chill) was MINUS 21 degrees Fahrenheit! MINUS 21 degrees!
(I took the photo above that morning when there was frost on the *inside* of the windows.)
I have to say, I am so very thankful for a home with a working furnace and thermostat, and for vehicles with heat when we need to go out.
In South Africa, where my husband is from and where I used to live, it can get frigidly cold in the winter (granted, not minus 21 degrees Fahrenheit), but there is no heat in the homes. People use wood fireplaces and space heaters and just congregate around the source of heat for as long as possible, drinking copious amounts of hot tea, before climbing under layers and layers of blankets to go to sleep.
My South African husband jokes that he is warmer in America than he is in South Africa because you’re only exposed to the cold from your house to your car and back again!
STOP.

Brrr! The cold doth make me shiver,
and the snow comes as a flood.
Maybe I should eat more liver
that might thicken up my blood,
but I really hate the taste
of that loathsome cut of meat,
so for me it is a waste,
but for some…is it a treat?
Some weirdos do have weirdo likes,
like broccoli and Brussels sprouts,
but I can only just cry Yikes!
for with these foods I’m on the outs,
and my five food groups are quite clear,
pizza twice and three times beer.
Whaddya want for five minutes?
How funny, Andrew!
Love it. I do have wierdo likes of things like Liver, Broccoli and Brussel Sprouts!
Wow! Minus 21 degrees Fahrenheit. I can’t even imagine. Our temps have been in the teens (highs around 20), and I thought that was frigid.
well… you were running a bit cold outside weren’t you. And here I was complaining this morning about the -19 C I had to deal with this morning. visiting from FMF11
About 10-15 years ago, I attended a ladies’ retreat during a severe ice storm. Our lodge was comfortable and roomy with a huge fireplace that kept us cozy. The only downside was having to go outside and walk across a bridge to get to the dining hall.
